Yttrium Fluoride (YF₃): Medical Scintillators, Laser Crystals, IR Fibers, Specialty Alloys

Yttrium fluoride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula YF₃. It appears as white powder with a density of 4.01 g/cm³. Melting point is 1387°C, boiling point >2200°C. Insoluble in water, difficult to dissolve in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and sulfuric acid, but soluble in perchloric acid. Hygroscopic in air and relatively stable.

Applications

  1. Preparation of scintillators required for modern medical imaging technology and nuclear science.
  2. Rare earth crystal laser materials.
  3. Fluoride glass optical fibers and rare earth infrared glass.
  4. Manufacturing special alloys and electrolytic production of metallic yttrium.

About Yttrium Fluoride
