ST in ST fiber optic connectors stands for “Stab & Twist.” The housing is circular, and the locking mechanism is a snap-in type, i.e., a snap-in circular interface. The ST connector features a bayonet-style locking frame and a 2.5 mm long cylindrical ceramic (commonly) or polymer ferrule to hold the entire fiber. Installation resembles a snap-fit light bulb: insert and rotate halfway to lock into the bayonet. For 10Base-F connections, the connector is typically of the ST type.
