Gadolinium Oxide Gd₂O₃: Essential White Powder for Nuclear Reactors & Optical Materials

Gadolinium oxide is an inorganic compound appearing as white powder. Insoluble in water but soluble in acids. Volatilizes with steam, alkaline, toxic, and irritates eyes/respiratory tract/skin. Absorbs CO₂ from air and reacts with inorganic acids to form water-soluble salts.

Production Method
Mainly produced by oxalate precipitation: Dissolve gadolinium chloride/nitrate, adjust pH to 2 with oxalic acid, precipitate gadolinium oxalate by adding ammonia. After heating/aging, separate/wash, dry at 110°C, then calcine at 900-1000°C to obtain Gd₂O₃.
