Description

Terbium Oxide (Tb₄O₇): Phosphor Activator, TGG/TSAG Crystals, Scintillation Ceramics, Metallic Tb

Terbium oxide is an inorganic compound with chemical formula Tb₄O₇, appearing as brown powder with density 7.3g/cm³, melting point 2500°C, boiling point 3760°C. Under 1800°C and 15MPa hydrogen reduction, converts to Tb₂O₃. Insoluble in water but soluble in acids to form trivalent salts. Volatilizes with steam, alkaline, toxic, and irritates eyes/respiratory tract/skin. Absorbs CO₂ and reacts with inorganic acids to form water-soluble salts.

Production Method
Mainly produced by oxalate precipitation: Dissolve terbium chloride/nitrate, adjust pH to 2 with oxalic acid, precipitate terbium oxalate by adding ammonia. After heating/aging, separate/wash, dry at 110°C, then calcine at 900-1000°C to obtain Tb₄O₇.
