The Yaskawa GA50U2012ABA is a GA500 industrial variable frequency drive designed for 200 to 240 VAC three-phase input power. It provides a 4 HP or 3 kW Normal Duty rating with 12.2 A output current. Under Heavy Duty selection, the applicable rating is 3 HP or 2.2 kW with 11.0 A output current.
This model is positioned above GA50U2010ABA and provides additional current for larger motors or applications requiring greater operating margin. The difference between its Normal Duty and Heavy Duty power classifications must be considered during selection.
Normal Duty operation permits 12.2 A output and is generally suitable for moderate-overload or variable-torque applications. Heavy Duty operation uses an 11 A current limit and should be evaluated for conveyors, loaded starts, mixers and machinery with more demanding torque cycles.
The motor full-load current must remain within the applicable duty rating. A nominal 4 HP motor with high current or repeated loaded acceleration may require a larger drive. The available supply must also be confirmed as 240 V class three phase.
The GA500 series supports V/f control and open-loop vector control for induction motors together with compatible permanent-magnet motor operation. Open-loop vector control can improve low-speed torque and speed stability when accurate motor data and autotuning are used.
Enter rated voltage, current, frequency, speed and power from the actual motor nameplate. The correct motor-control method and tuning procedure should be selected for the connected motor. Rotational tuning must only be performed when movement is safe.
Programmable digital and analog functions support run commands, frequency reference, direction control, status feedback and machine interlocks. Embedded RS-485 supports MEMOBUS/Modbus RTU. Other industrial communication networks require compatible GA500 options.
Safe Torque Off is rated SIL3 under IEC 62061 and PLe under ISO 13849-1 when integrated into a properly engineered safety circuit. STO prevents motor torque but does not isolate the drive from electrical power.

Typical applications include conveyors, pumps, fans, packaging machines, material-handling equipment and general process machinery. Review motor current, breakaway torque, load inertia, acceleration frequency, minimum operating speed and stopping requirements.
The built-in braking transistor permits connection of an external braking resistor. The resistor is not included and must be selected according to resistance, regenerative energy and braking duty.
Install the IP20 drive inside an appropriate control cabinet. Confirm upstream protection, conductor size, grounding, cooling and separation between motor and signal cables. Temperature, altitude, carrier frequency and close mounting can require derating.
Before normal operation, verify motor direction, frequency limits, acceleration and deceleration settings, safety wiring, communication and controller interlocks.
GA50U2010ABA provides 9.6 A Normal Duty and 8 A Heavy Duty output. GA50U2021ABA provides 21 A Normal Duty and 17.6 A Heavy Duty output.
