The Yaskawa GA50UB004ABA is a compact GA500 variable frequency drive designed for a 200 to 240 VAC single-phase input supply and control of a compatible three-phase motor. It provides a 0.75 HP or 0.55 kW Normal Duty rating with 3.5 A output current. Under Heavy Duty selection, the applicable rating is 0.5 HP or 0.4 kW with 3.0 A output current.
This model is suitable for compact machinery where only single-phase power is available but a three-phase industrial motor requires adjustable-speed operation. It must not be confused with a drive intended to operate a single-phase capacitor motor.
The main technical distinction of GA50UB004ABA is its single-phase input. The motor output remains intended for a compatible three-phase motor. Normal Duty provides up to 3.5 A output, while Heavy Duty uses the lower 3 A limit for higher-overload operating requirements.
Check the actual motor nameplate current and voltage. A nominal 0.75 HP motor whose current exceeds 3.5 A should not be connected without reviewing the next drive size. The incoming single-phase circuit must also be sized for the drive input demand.
The GA500 platform supports V/f control and open-loop vector control for induction motors, together with compatible permanent-magnet motor operation. Open-loop vector control can improve low-speed torque and speed stability when accurate motor data and appropriate autotuning are used.
Enter motor voltage, current, frequency, speed and rated power from the three-phase motor nameplate. Do not use the input-line current as the motor-rating reference. Rotational autotuning must only be performed where shaft movement is safe.
Programmable digital and analog terminals support run commands, direction selection, external speed references, status signals and machine interlocks. Embedded RS-485 supports MEMOBUS/Modbus RTU. Additional network protocols require compatible optional hardware.
The Safe Torque Off circuit is rated SIL3 under IEC 62061 and PLe under ISO 13849-1 when correctly incorporated into a validated safety system. STO disables torque production but does not isolate the incoming single-phase supply.

Typical applications include compact conveyors, feeders, small pumps, fans, packaging machines and workshop equipment. Review starting torque, acceleration time, minimum speed and stopping requirements. Confirm that the motor is designed for inverter operation over the required speed range.
The built-in braking transistor permits connection of an external braking resistor. The resistor is not included and must be selected according to resistance, regenerative energy and braking frequency.
Install the IP20 drive in a ventilated enclosure. Confirm single-phase supply voltage, upstream circuit capacity, protective-device sizing, grounding and cable routing. Input current can be higher than motor output current because the power source is single phase.
GA50UB002ABA covers a lower output range. GA50UB006ABA provides 6 A Normal Duty and 5 A Heavy Duty output. GA50U2004ABA uses a three-phase input and must not be treated as an identical replacement.
