The Yaskawa GA50U4002ABA is a compact GA500 variable frequency drive for 380 to 480 VAC three-phase motor systems. It provides a Normal Duty rating of 1 HP or 0.75 kW with 2.1 A output current. Under Heavy Duty selection, the applicable rating is 0.75 HP or 0.55 kW with 1.8 A output current.
This model is intended for small industrial motors requiring adjustable speed, controlled starting and stopping, and integration with machine-control signals. Its low current rating makes it suitable for compact equipment, but final selection must be based on the actual motor nameplate current rather than horsepower alone.
GA50U4002ABA is positioned below GA50U4004ABA in the 480 V GA500 range. Normal Duty operation provides the maximum 2.1 A continuous rating for moderate-overload or variable-torque applications. Heavy Duty operation uses a lower 1.8 A limit where the machine requires increased overload capability.
A 1 HP motor with nameplate current above 2.1 A should not be matched to this drive without an engineering review. Starting torque, acceleration time, motor efficiency and load inertia can require selection of the next GA500 rating.
The GA500 platform supports V/f control and open-loop vector control for induction motors, together with compatible permanent-magnet motor operation. V/f control is appropriate for straightforward variable-speed applications. Open-loop vector control can improve low-speed torque and speed regulation when the motor parameters and autotuning procedure are correctly applied.
Motor voltage, current, frequency, speed and rated power should be entered from the actual motor nameplate. Rotational autotuning must only be performed when shaft movement and connected machine movement are safe.
Programmable digital and analog terminals support run commands, direction control, speed reference, interlocks and operating-status feedback. Embedded RS-485 communication supports MEMOBUS/Modbus RTU. EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, PROFIBUS-DP, EtherCAT and other networks require compatible optional communication hardware.
GA500 Safe Torque Off is rated SIL3 under IEC 62061 and PLe under ISO 13849-1 when correctly integrated into a validated safety system. STO prevents torque-producing operation but does not isolate incoming electrical power.

Typical applications include compact conveyors, dosing equipment, feeders, pumps, fans, small packaging machines and auxiliary machine drives. Verify breakaway torque, minimum operating speed, acceleration frequency and stopping requirements before commissioning.
The built-in braking transistor permits connection of a correctly selected external braking resistor. The resistor is not included within the drive and must be selected according to regenerative energy, resistance and braking duty.
Install the IP20 drive inside an appropriate control cabinet with adequate ventilation. Confirm upstream protection, cable size, grounding and separation between motor wiring and low-level control cables. Ambient temperature, altitude, carrier frequency and close mounting may require output derating.
GA50U4001ABA covers a lower current range. GA50U4004ABA provides 4.1 A Normal Duty and 3.4 A Heavy Duty output and should be considered when additional current or acceleration margin is required.
