The Yaskawa GA50U2010ABA is a GA500 industrial variable frequency drive for 200 to 240 VAC three-phase power systems. It provides a 3 HP or 2.2 kW Normal Duty rating with 9.6 A output current. For applications requiring greater overload capability, it provides a 2 HP or 1.5 kW Heavy Duty rating with 8.0 A output current.
This model is suitable for industrial machines that require more output capacity than GA50U2006ABA while retaining a compact IP20 chassis. The difference between its Normal Duty and Heavy Duty ratings must be considered before matching it to a motor.
GA50U2010ABA can support a 3 HP motor in moderate-overload Normal Duty applications if motor current remains within 9.6 A. For higher-torque or frequently changing loads, the 8 A Heavy Duty limit and 2 HP classification should be applied.
The motor nameplate current remains the main electrical selection criterion. A 3 HP motor with a high full-load current or demanding acceleration cycle may require the next drive size. Conversely, unnecessary oversizing can increase cost and complicate motor-protection settings.
The GA500 series supports V/f control, open-loop vector control for induction motors and operation with compatible permanent-magnet motors. Open-loop vector control is useful where improved low-speed torque and speed stability are required without encoder feedback.
Correct motor data is essential. Rated current, voltage, frequency, speed and power should be entered from the actual motor nameplate. Autotuning should be completed according to the selected control method, and rotational tuning must not be performed until shaft movement is safe.
Programmable digital and analog terminals support external run commands, direction control, frequency reference, interlocks and status feedback. Embedded RS-485 supports MEMOBUS/Modbus RTU. Compatible communication options are required for EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT and other industrial networks.
The Safe Torque Off function is rated SIL3 under IEC 62061 and PLe under ISO 13849-1 when correctly integrated into a validated machine safety system. STO prevents torque generation but does not disconnect the drive from hazardous electrical energy.

Typical applications include conveyors, pumps, fans, packaging machinery, material-handling equipment and light process machines. Confirm starting torque, load inertia, acceleration frequency, minimum operating speed and stopping requirements before final selection.
The built-in braking transistor permits use of an external braking resistor for applications producing regenerative energy during deceleration. The resistance and thermal rating must match the drive requirements and actual braking cycle.
Install the IP20 unit in an appropriate cabinet with adequate ventilation. Verify upstream protection, cable sizing, grounding and control-circuit routing. Temperature, altitude, switching frequency and close mounting may affect continuous output capacity. Do not assume a parameter file from another model is directly transferable without review.
GA50U2006ABA provides 6 A Normal Duty and 5 A Heavy Duty output. GA50U2012ABA provides 12.2 A Normal Duty and 11 A Heavy Duty output. Choose the adjacent model according to continuous motor current and overload demand.
