Q: What are the obvious signs of fan clutch silicone oil leakage? What consequences will occur if not handled after leakage?
A: There are two obvious signs: First, oil stains appear on the clutch housing and its surroundings (such as fan blades and water pump connections), and the oil stains are transparent or light yellow (the color of silicone oil); second, the fan speed is abnormal, such as the fan not rotating when cold or failing to increase speed when hot. If not handled after leakage, the fan's heat dissipation capacity will continue to decrease, the engine will overheat frequently, and in the long run, it will wear the internal bearings of the clutch (due to lack of silicone oil lubrication), eventually leading to serious faults such as fan jamming and engine cylinder scuffing.

Q: The engine water temperature is normal, but the fan clutch still runs at high speed frequently. Is this a fault? What are the possible reasons?
A: It is a fault, and there may be 3 reasons: First, the temperature sensor is faulty, transmitting incorrect high-temperature signals to the ECU (electronic type) or paraffin element (mechanical type), causing the clutch to mistakenly trigger the high-speed mode; second, the internal "one-way clutch" of the clutch fails (some mechanical types), unable to disengage when the temperature is normal, so the fan can only run at high speed; third, the ECU program is abnormal (electronic type), the control logic is wrong, forcing the fan to keep high speed. It is necessary to check by detecting sensor signals, disassembling to inspect the clutch structure or refreshing the ECU program.

Q: What should be noted when replacing a fan clutch?
A: When replacing a fan clutch, several key points need attention. First, ensure you select a model that matches your vehicle’s make and model—using an incompatible clutch can lead to poor cooling performance or even engine damage. Second, clean the connection parts (such as the fan shaft and mounting brackets) before installation to remove dirt, rust, or old gasket material, which ensures a tight and stable fit.
