Q: When using the vehicle in high-altitude areas, will the working state of the fan clutch change? Is special maintenance required?
A: The working state will change slightly, no special maintenance is required, but attention should be paid to inspection. The air in high-altitude areas is thin, and the heat dissipation efficiency is lower than that in plain areas. The engine is more likely to reach high temperature, leading to an increase in the frequency of high-speed operation of the fan clutch and longer working time; at the same time, the large temperature difference between day and night in high-altitude areas may accelerate the aging of the clutch seal. In daily use, only two additional checks are needed during each maintenance: first, whether there is silicone oil leakage from the clutch housing (high-load operation is likely to aggravate leakage); second, whether there is abnormal noise from the fan bearing (frequent high-speed operation is likely to cause wear). If there is no abnormality, regular maintenance is sufficient.

Q: In winter, the vehicle is parked outdoors, and the fan clutch is frozen and cannot rotate. How to solve it? Will it damage the clutch?
A: It is mostly caused by the solidification of the paraffin element of the mechanical temperature-controlled clutch due to low temperature, which can be solved by "low-temperature thawing": start the engine, idle for 3-5 minutes, use the engine heat to gradually melt the paraffin, and the fan will slowly resume rotation. Do not forcefully pull the fan by hand during this period to avoid damaging the blades or bearings. If the fan operates normally without abnormal noise after thawing, it usually does not damage the clutch; if it still cannot rotate or has abnormal noise after thawing, the paraffin element may be frozen and cracked or the bearing may be stuck, requiring disassembly and maintenance to replace the damaged parts.

Q: What are the main types of fan clutches?
A: The common types of fan clutches include mechanical temperature-controlled, electronic temperature-controlled, and silicone oil-based variants. Among these, silicone oil fan clutches are most widely used in traditional fuel vehicles due to their stable heat dissipation performance and moderate cost. Mechanical types rely on bimetallic strips to trigger adjustments, while electronic ones use sensors and ECUs for more precise control, suiting modern vehicles with advanced engine management systems.
