Neodymium Chloride Hydrate (NdCl₃·6H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

Neodymium chloride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula NdCl3•6H2O, appearing as purple crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of the hydrate dissolves in 100mL of water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into neodymium oxide.

Preparation of Neodymium Chloride Hydrate
Dissolve an appropriate amount of neodymium oxide in 50% hydrochloric acid solution using a steam bath for heating. Typically, the neodymium oxide will completely dissolve. If a small amount of oxide residue remains at the bottom of the container, filtration is required. Transfer the obtained clear solution to a 75°C water bath to evaporate most of the solvent. Crystals will precipitate upon cooling the solution. Collect the crystals by filtration and place them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate. Dry under vacuum to obtain hydrated neodymium chloride.
