Holmium Chloride Hydrate (HoCl₃·6H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

Holmium chloride is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula HoCl3•6H2O, appearing as pale yellow crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes to form holmium oxide.

Applications

Packaging Specifications

Production Method

An appropriate amount of holmium oxide is dissolved in 50% hydrochloric acid solution with steam bath heating. While holmium oxide typically dissolves completely, any residual oxide at container bottom requires filtration. The clear solution is then heated in a 75°C water bath to remove most solvent. Crystals form upon cooling, which are collected by filtration and dried in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate to obtain hydrated holmium chloride.
