About Lutetium Chloride Hydrate

Dissolve an appropriate amount of lutetium oxide in a 50% hydrochloric acid solution using a steam bath for heating. Typically, the lutetium oxide will completely dissolve. If a small amount of oxide residue remains at the bottom of the container, filtration is required. Transfer the clear solution to a 75°C water bath to evaporate most of the solvent. After cooling, crystals will precipitate. Collect the crystals by filtration and place them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate. Dry under vacuum to obtain hydrated lutetium chloride.
