Applications and Industries
PET anti-static coated film finds its application in a variety of industries including electronics, medical, automotive, and printing due to its excellent static discharge properties.
Primary Application Areas
- Electronics: Used in production of electronic components and devices to prevent static discharge damage to sensitive circuits.
- Medical: Employed in medical packaging to prevent static electricity buildup that can attract contaminants and compromise sterility.
- Automotive: Used in manufacture of automotive parts and components requiring protection against static discharge.
- Printing: Prevents static electricity buildup during printing processes, ensuring proper ink adhesion and print quality.
- Tape Industry: Serves as release liner in adhesive tape manufacturing, preventing static buildup within tape rolls.
Specific Application Scenarios
- Electronics Industry: Protective layer for electronic components, circuit boards, and sensitive devices during manufacturing, transportation, or storage.
- Packaging and Labeling: Protective covering for static-sensitive products with red color for branding and visual differentiation.
- Safety and Hazard Identification: Creates labels, signs, or tapes for warning messages and restricted areas.
- Decorative and Artistic Applications: Bold red color for art installations and displays while maintaining cleanliness.
- Automotive Industry: Interior trim, accent pieces, and protective covers that prevent dust accumulation.
Key Features
The main feature of PET anti-static coated film is its ability to prevent the buildup of static electricity. It has a conductive coating on one or both sides of the film, which allows charges to dissipate and prevents static buildup. This results in improved handling, processing, and protection of sensitive components and products.
The film is commonly available in transparent or translucent (colorless) versions, with other colors such as pink, blue, and yellow also available depending on application requirements. Colors are primarily used for identification purposes to differentiate between film types and facilitate quality control.
Manufacturing Process
To coat an antistatic fluid onto already produced PET film, the film is unwound from its original roll and passed through a coating applicator using methods such as gravure, reverse gravure, Mayer rod or air knife. After coating, the film passes through a drying oven to remove solvent, then is rewound onto a new roll.
Note: The effectiveness of the coating process depends on the type of antistatic fluid used and its compatibility with the PET film. The process must be carefully controlled to maintain consistent coating thickness and avoid defects in the final product.
