Q: Why do some fan clutches have a specific rotation direction?
A: This is related to the design of the internal silicone fluid pumping circuit and the bearings. Clutches designed for unidirectional rotation have internal oil passages and seals optimized for that direction. If installed backwards, it may prevent the proper circulation of silicone fluid, leading to insufficient lubrication and rapid clutch failure and damage.

Q: How can I tell if my vehicle originally had a viscous or electromagnetic fan clutch?
A: There are two simple ways: 1) Look at it: As mentioned, the one with a spiral bimetallic strip on the front is viscous; the one with an electrical connector is electromagnetic. 2) Look at the fan shroud: If the fan shroud has a dedicated air duct or opening to direct hot air towards the center of the clutch, it is definitely a viscous type. Electromagnetic types usually don't need this feature.

Q: Can fan clutches be used on natural gas engines?
A: Yes, and it's quite common. Natural gas engines also generate significant heat and require efficient cooling systems. The working principle and installation are the same as on diesel engines. However, note that due to the combustion characteristics of natural gas engines, their thermal management strategy might be slightly different; always choose clutch products certified for that specific engine model.
