Description

1) Features of Spiral Bevel Gear

  • Their manufacture relies heavily on specialised gear hobbing and grinding machines such as those produced by Gleason or Oerlikon. These machines are capable of executing complex cutter disc trajectories to produce precise helical tooth surfaces using either the generating or forming method.
  • Following finishing, ‘soft-meshing’ paired grinding or running-in processes are universally employed. A pair of gears is marked as a unique match and subjected to brief running-in under specific loads to establish optimal contact patterns on the tooth surfaces. This constitutes the critical process ensuring their exceptional performance.

2) Functions of Spiral Bevel Gear

One of the core functions of manufacturing is to achieve precise ‘tooth surface profiling’. By fine-tuning machine tool settings, minute amounts of crown are deliberately introduced onto the tooth surfaces or the contact path is modified to compensate for deformation under load.
