Type 304 is designated UNS S30400 and EN 1.4301. For material ordered to ASTM A276, the purchase order should state the applicable unit system, grade, product form and supplementary requirements.

A pickled hot-rolled surface is intended for industrial rather than mirror-finish applications. Slight differences in shade, texture or rolling marks may be visible and should not automatically be treated as defects.

Hot-rolled angles may have tapered legs or rounded transitions depending on the mill process. Buyers requiring sharp corners, decorative appearance or tight thickness control should discuss cold-formed or plate-formed alternatives.
