Standard Orifice Plate Flow Meters Suitable For Measuring Various Gases, Liquids, And Vapors
Applicable to the measurement of various gases, liquids and steam, the standard orifice plate flowmeter is one of the most classic and widely used differential pressure flow measurement instruments.
| Characteristics | Standard orifice plate | Venturi tube | Conical flowmeter (V-cone) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pressure loss | Large | Small | Moderate |
| Straight pipe section requirement | Long | Short | Very short |
| Accuracy | Moderate | High | High |
| Wear resistance | Poor | Good | Good |
| Cost | Low | High | Moderate |
The standard orifice plate flowmeter, with its simplicity, reliability, standardization and economy, still holds a core position in industrial flow measurement. However, its disadvantages of high pressure loss and narrow range ratio have led to its gradual replacement by conical flowmeters, elbow flowmeters or new types of flowmeters in some applications in today's context of rising energy costs and more flexible process requirements. Nevertheless, in mature standard fields such as steam and natural gas, it remains one of the preferred solutions.
