About BUC (Block Up Converter)
BUC stands for Block Up Converter. As shown in the figure it consists of two modules in one package: RF Up converter and RF power amplifier. It's used in VSAT transmission systems for relaying voice/data via satellite to larger portion of the earth.
Key Functions
- Frequency conversion - converts lower frequency to higher frequency (RF up conversion)
- Amplification - boosts amplitude level of RF signal (RF amplification)
Advantages
The BUC combines both up converter and amplifier functions in a single unit, offering cost savings and easier installation compared to separate modules. The BUC is installed between the satellite modem (modulator output) and antenna.
