Degrees of Freedom. A 4-axis robot is faster in a straight line but cannot "flip" a part. If your part needs to be turned over for a piercing operation or tilted 30° to enter a specific die, only a 6-axis robot provides the "wrist" flexibility required. This eliminates the need for expensive, standalone turnover stations between presses, shortening the overall line length.
Q2: How do you prevent robots from colliding with the press slide during "Continuous Motion"?
We use Interference Zone Predictive Control. The robot controller receives a live feed of the press's crank angle.
