Product Description
2205 stainless steel is a duplex stainless steel composed of 21% chromium, 2.5% molybdenum and 4.5% nickel-nitrogen alloy. 2205 stainless steel pipe has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local stress corrosion resistance. It is generally used in pulp and paper industry classifiers, bleaching equipment, storage and processing systems, as well as rotating shafts, press rolls, blades, impellers, cargo boxes of ships or trucks, food processing equipment, etc. in high-strength corrosion-resistant environments.

Corrosion Resistance
Uniform Corrosion: Due to the chromium content (22%), molybdenum (3%) and nitrogen content (0.18%), 2205 has better corrosion resistance than 316L and 317L in most environments.
Local Corrosion Resistance: The chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen content in 2205 duplex stainless steel makes it highly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion in oxidizing and acidic solutions.
Stress Corrosion Resistance: The duplex microstructure of stainless steel helps to improve the resistance of stainless steel to stress corrosion cracking. Under certain temperature, stress, oxygen and chloride conditions, austenitic stainless steel will undergo chloride stress corrosion. Since these conditions are difficult to control, the use of 304L, 316L and 317L is limited in this regard.
Corrosion Fatigue Resistance: The high strength and corrosion resistance of 2205 duplex steel give it high corrosion fatigue strength. Processing equipment is susceptible to corrosive environments and loading cycles, and the characteristics of 2205 Stainless Steel Pipe are very suitable for such applications.
Morphological Characteristics
Structure: The chemical composition of 2205 achieves an ideal microstructure of 50 α / 50 γ after solution annealing at 1900°/1922°F (1040°/1080°C). Heat treatment above 2000°F may result in an increase in the ferrite content. Like other duplex stainless steels, 2205 alloy is susceptible to the precipitation of intermetallic phases. Intermetallic phases precipitate between 1300°F and 1800°F, with the fastest precipitation rate at 1600°F. Therefore, we need to test 2205 to ensure the absence of intermetallic phases, and the test refers to ASTM A 923.
