Nickel Alloy 600 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy (72% Ni min, 14-17% Cr) designed for use from cryogenic to elevated temperatures up to 1093°C (2000°F) . The high nickel content provides excellent resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and corrosion by alkaline solutions, while the chromium content gives resistance to oxidizing environments and sulfur compounds . The alloy is non-magnetic, readily weldable, and cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working . Typical applications include chemical processing, aerospace, nuclear engineering, and thermal processing equipment.

Heat Treatment Conditions
Annealed
Alloy 600 is normally supplied in the annealed condition. The standard annealing treatment is performed at approximately 1,925°F – 1,975°F (1,052°C – 1,079°C) followed by rapid cooling. This treatment provides optimal corrosion resistance and ductility for forming and fabrication. Unlike age-hardenable alloys, Alloy 600 does not require precipitation aging treatments to achieve its properties .
Cold Working
Alloy 600 is not age-hardenable – strength increases only through cold working. Annealed material typically exhibits tensile strength of 80 – 110 ksi (552 – 758 MPa), while heavily cold worked material can achieve higher strength levels .
