Nickel Alloy 600 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy designed for use from cryogenic to elevated temperatures up to 1093°C (2000°F) with good oxidation resistance and resistance to carburizing and chloride-containing environments. The high nickel content (72% minimum) provides excellent resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking and corrosion by alkaline solutions, while the chromium content (14-17%) gives resistance to sulfur compounds and various oxidizing environments. Alloy 600 is non-magnetic, readily weldable, and exhibits cold forming characteristics similar to chromium-nickel stainless steels.

Solution Annealed
Alloy 600 is normally supplied in the annealed condition. The standard annealing treatment is performed at approximately 1,925°F – 1,975°F (1,052°C – 1,079°C) followed by rapid cooling. This treatment provides optimal corrosion resistance and ductility for forming and fabrication.
Cold Working / Spring Temper
Alloy 600 is not age-hardenable – strength increases only through cold working. Annealed material typically exhibits tensile strength of 80 – 110 ksi (552 – 758 MPa), while spring temper can achieve 160 – 200 ksi (1,103 – 1,379 MPa). Cold working should be performed in the solution-annealed condition and may affect the alloy's corrosion resistance in certain environments.
