Performance and Applications
Excellent weather resistance enables over 20 years of service without maintenance. Early test results from roof and wall systems demonstrate survival through decades of intense sun exposure, industrial waste erosion, and extreme temperature and pressure variations without requiring maintenance. With more than 500 million square meters of construction worldwide, aluminium-zinc plate remains the preferred choice for architects and homeowners. Studies indicate such roofing systems typically last 30 years or more in most applications without requiring specialized maintenance or repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the primary uses of Galvalume?
It is widely used for metal roofing, siding, pre-engineered metal buildings, HVAC ductwork, automotive parts, and appliances.
Is it okay to use Galvalume with pressure-treated lumber?
Generally, no. The chemicals in modern pressure-treated wood (like ACQ) are highly corrosive to Galvalume. Use a barrier tape or physical separator between the wood and metal.
Can Galvalume be used for animal shelters?
It is not recommended for interior animal confinement buildings (like pig barns) because ammonia vapors from animal waste react poorly with the coating.
What is "White Rust" and is it a defect?
White rust (Wet Storage Stain) is a white powdery deposit formed when Galvalume gets wet while tightly coiled or stacked. If light, it's usually cosmetic; if heavy, it may compromise the coating.
Does Galvalume require regular maintenance?
Very little. However, areas not washed by natural rainfall (like under eaves) should be rinsed with fresh water annually to remove accumulated salts and dust.
