Chlorella is a ubiquitous, single-celled green algae from the genus Chlorella in the phylum Chlorophyta. It is a highly efficient photosynthetic plant that grows and reproduces photosynthetically and is widely distributed. Individuals are rare in nature, but can be cultivated in large numbers. Its cells are high in protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and contain a variety of vitamins, making it edible and useful as bait.
Currently, there are approximately 10 known species of Chlorella worldwide, and including its variants, there are hundreds more. Chlorella is widely distributed in nature, with the largest concentration occurring in freshwater. It is easy to cultivate and utilizes light energy for autotrophic growth and can also grow and reproduce heterotrophically using organic carbon sources. Its rapid growth and reproduction rate makes it the only plant or animal on Earth capable of quadrupling its size in 20 hours, making it highly valuable for practical applications. Common species in my country include Chlorella pyrenoidosa, Chlorella ellipsoidea, and Chlorella vulgaris. Chlorella pyrenoidosa has a high protein content and the highest nutritional value.
