High-volume petrol station supply — 28KL, ATEX-rated electricals, Stage I-II vapor recovery

Gasoline is the most demanding cargo in the tanker world — low flash point, high vapor pressure, and serious fire risk if anything goes wrong. This 28,000-liter transporter is built with that reality in mind. The entire electrical system is explosion-proof to ATEX Zone 1 standards: Ex-d junction boxes, intrinsically safe sensors in each compartment, and a sealed wiring harness with no exposed connections. Even the rear work light and the pump start button are Ex-rated. Tank is 6mm carbon steel with an internal anti-static epoxy coating that dissipates charge buildup during loading.

Loading is via bottom API couplers — four compartments, each with a 4-inch adaptor and pneumatic foot valve. The vapor recovery system captures displaced vapors during loading (Stage I) and returns them to the depot tank rather than venting to atmosphere. During unloading, a 65 cubic meter per hour explosion-proof gear pump pushes product through a vapor recovery nozzle that captures Stage II vapors at the underground tank fill point. The grounding system has an interlock — the pump will not start unless the static reel is connected and resistance is below 10 ohms.

For fire safety, we spec two 9kg dry powder extinguishers (not the standard 6kg), plus an automatic suppression system in the engine bay that triggers at 170 degrees C. The exhaust has a spark arrestor, and the muffler exit is routed to the front-left, well away from the tank area. This truck meets the fuel transport regulations in most African and Southeast Asian markets. One of our customers running a chain of 12 petrol stations in Ghana uses a fleet of these for daily resupply — they have not had a reportable incident in three years of operation.
