Soil Shrinkage Limit Test Apparatus
The Soil Shrinkage Test Apparatus is designed for determining soil contraction properties including moisture content at contracting limit, linear contracting rate, body contraction, and contracting coefficient after moisture loss.
Equipment Description
The instrument consists of two main components:
- Main Part: Comprising floor, table pole folder table, plate and other components
- Quasi-soil Part: Consisting of guide ring, ring knives, ring orientation, and prospective soil components
Function Principle
The testing procedure involves smearing Vaseline in the ring knife, introducing soil samples, immediate weighing, and placement in the instrument. After recording initial readings at 20°C, the shrinkage test proceeds according to soil test procedures (SDS.01-79) until scale readings stabilize. Samples are then dried at 100-105°C to constant weight, with measurements taken from four vertical positions for computational analysis.
Maintenance Instructions
After using the Soil Shrinkage Instrument, thoroughly clean the apparatus and apply a thin layer of grease to prevent rust formation.
