Product Description
AvaSpire® PAEK is a customized aromatic polyketone developed by Solvay to fill the cost and performance gap between PEEK (polyetheretherketone) and other high-performance polymers.Based on different resin melt flow rates, this series of products is divided into three product families, AV-600, AV-400 and AV-700, including pure resin grade, glass fiber (GF) and carbon fiber (CF) reinforced grade, wear-resistant SL grade, etc.
PAEK Material Properties
Medical field: AvaSpire ® PAEK 600 series products have been successfully used in the medical field, such as reusable sterilized surgical instruments and equipment, because of its high mechanical properties, strong chemical resistance to a variety of sterilization media, and excellent cleanliness and inertness. In line with ISO 10993 standard, it can be used as a feasible substitute for stainless steel.
Automotive field: The three series of AvaSpire® PAEK are suitable for automotive engine compartment and powertrain applications, and can withstand a wide range of automotive fluids, even at high temperatures up to 150°C.For example, AV-750 GF40 can be used for structural components, the wear-resistant SL series can be used for sealing rings, bushings and bearings, and the 400 series is suitable for injection molded thin-walled structural components.
Aerospace field: AvaSpire® PAEK products have the characteristics of fatigue and creep resistance, chemical resistance and heat and humidity properties. They are very suitable for light and medium-load structural applications in the aerospace field. Its excellent flame, smoke and toxicity properties are also key factors for successful applications in the aerospace field.
Oil and gas field: AvaSpire® PAEK can be used as a sealing component of compressors in the oil and gas industry. In the temperature range of 150°C-190°C, its mechanical and temperature properties are better than PEEK, and it has high toughness and chemical resistance.
Key Advantages
- Excellent mechanical properties: Taking AvaSpire® AV-652 as an example, compared with the standard 30% glass fiber filled PEEK, its strength and stiffness are 10% to 15% higher, its impact resistance is 20% to 30% higher, and it has a higher elastic modulus between room temperature and 200°C.
- Good thermal stability: AvaSpire® PAEK can maintain good performance at high temperatures. Some grades can maintain better stiffness than PEEK in the range of 150°C-190°C. AvaSpire® grade materials still have elastic-plastic properties at 170°C.
- Excellent chemical resistance: it can withstand various industrial chemicals, including acids, alkalis and most organic solvents, has excellent hydrolytic stability, and can be used for a long time in hot water and steam environments.
- Excellent processing performance: The nominal melt viscosity of AvaSpire® AV-652 is between the high-flow injection molding grade and the low-flow 30% glass fiber reinforced PEEK extruded plastic grade. The absolute crystallinity is low, the molding shrinkage is low, and the warping is less, which can meet strict tolerance requirements.
- Good flame retardant: PAEK itself is flame retardant, and AvaSpire ® PAEK resins and compounds can reach UL-94 V0 or V1 ratings without the use of flame retardant additives at a thickness of 0.8 mm.
