Ytterbium Acetate Hydrate (Yb(C₂H₃O₂)₃·4H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Growth Promoter

Ytterbium acetate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Yb(C2H3O2)3·4H2O, appearing as white crystals. It is soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into ytterbium oxide.

About Ytterbium Acetate Hydrate
Dissolve an appropriate amount of ytterbium oxide in a 50% acetic acid solution using a steam bath. Typically, the oxide dissolves completely; if residual solids remain, filter the solution. Concentrate the clear solution on a 75°C water bath to remove most solvent. Crystals form upon cooling. Collect the crystals by filtration and dry them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate under reduced pressure to obtain hydrated ytterbium acetate.
