Scandium Acetate Hydrate (Sc(CH₃COO)₃·4H₂O): Chemical Additive, Reaction Catalyst, Crop Growth Promoter

Scandium acetate is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Sc(C2H3O2)3·4H2O. It appears as white crystals, soluble in water (approximately 25g of hydrate dissolves in 100mL water at 18°C) and benzene. When heated to 760°C, it decomposes into scandium oxide.

Synthesis of Scandium Acetate Hydrate

Dissolve an appropriate amount of scandium oxide in a 50% acetic acid solution using a steam bath. The oxide typically dissolves completely; if residual solids remain, filter the solution. Heat the clear solution in a 75°C water bath to evaporate most of the solvent. Upon cooling, crystals will form. Collect the crystals via filtration and dry them in a vacuum desiccator containing granular sodium hydroxide and magnesium perchlorate under reduced pressure to obtain hydrated scandium acetate.
