Vertical Helical Turbine Cold And Hot Water Meter
This is a type of mechanical water meter that is widely used in conditions of high flow rate and medium to low pressure. It is a kind of velocity water meter that calculates the flow rate by measuring the speed of water flow.
Technical Features
- Large flow capacity and low pressure loss: Due to its straight and spacious water flow channel, the resistance to water flow is extremely small. It is one of the water meter types with the smallest pressure loss under the same diameter, making it particularly suitable for systems with requirements for pressure drop in the pipeline network.
- Excellent performance in large flow measurement: It measures accurately and stably in the large flow range. It is very suitable for occasions with large water consumption.
- Compact structure and relatively small volume: Compared with horizontal screw-wing (disassemblable) or rotor water meters, the vertical screw-wing structure is more compact under the same diameter, and the installation space occupied is small.
- Good starting flow (sensitivity): Due to the rotor weight being supported by the bottom gemstone bearing or graphite bearing, the rotational friction is small, so its response to small flow is better than some horizontal screw-wing water meters.
- Can be equipped with pulse/signal output device: Dry reed tubes or Hall sensors can be added to be modified into pulse signal water meters, which can be used for remote meter reading or data collection (but has the inherent disadvantages of pulse meters mentioned above).
Application scenarios
- Main water supply pipes for industrial and commercial use: the main water inlets of factories, schools, hospitals, and hotels.
- Secondary water supply and regional metering: the main water meters of residential areas, buildings, and district metering areas (DMA).
- Irrigation and agricultural water use.
- Hot water/heating systems: as the front-end flow meter of heat meters, or directly for hot water metering (hot water meter models are required).
- Fire water monitoring (special models are required, usually with fire protection certification).

Vertical helical turbine cold and hot water meters are the "powerhouses" and "low-resistance pioneers" in the mechanical water meter family. With their unique vertical structure, they achieve efficient, low-resistance, and stable measurement under high-flow conditions, making them a classic and reliable choice for medium and large-diameter water supply metering scenarios.
They represent a peak in mechanical metering, and now, through integration with Internet of Things (IoT) technology, they are evolving from a "reliable mechanical heart" to an "intelligent network data node", continuing to play a key role in the smart water system. For engineers and water management professionals, understanding their principles, advantages, and strict installation requirements is the foundation for ensuring their long-term accurate and stable operation.
