Type R thermocouple wire is a high-precision precious metal thermocouple composed of a platinum-rhodium 13% alloy (positive leg) and pure platinum (negative leg). It belongs to the platinum-rhodium thermocouple family, offering superior stability and accuracy in high-temperature environments, especially in the range of 1000°C to 1600°C. Compared to Type S thermocouples, it has a higher rhodium content in the positive leg, providing enhanced performance in long-term high-temperature applications.
- Thermocouple Type: R-type (Platinum-Rhodium 13-Platinum)
- IEC Standard: IEC 60584-1
- ASTM Standard: ASTM E230
- High-Temperature Stability: Long-term operating temperature up to 1400°C; short-term use up to 1700°C
- Superior Accuracy: Class 1 tolerance of ±1.5°C or ±0.25% of reading (whichever is larger)
- Low Drift Rate: ≤0.05% thermoelectric potential drift after 1000 hours at 1200°C
- Oxidation Resistance: Excellent performance in oxidizing and inert atmospheres (avoid reducing environments)
- Higher Thermoelectric Power: Generates 10.574 mV at 1500°C (reference junction at 0°C)
- Aerospace engine testing (high-temperature combustion chambers)
- High-precision industrial furnaces (sintering of advanced ceramics)
- Semiconductor manufacturing (silicon wafer annealing)
- Metallurgical research (superalloy melting point testing)
- Glass fiber production (high-temperature furnace zones)
We also supply R-type thermocouple probes, connectors, and extension wires. Due to the high value of precious metals, free samples are available in limited lengths (≤1m) upon request, with detailed material certificates and impurity analysis reports.
