Why you need to top balance LiFePO4 cells before building a battery pack:
Regardless of cell grade (A, B, C) or whether they are new or used, initial balancing is essential to bring all cells to the same state of charge. Voltage alone is unreliable for determining state of charge in LiFePO4 chemistry due to the flat charge/discharge curve.
While parallel connection allows natural balancing over weeks or months, manual top balancing is recommended for large battery banks, cells with varying internal resistance, or when precise capacity matching is required.
