The Lanjiang Rotary Disk Aerator is a horizontal-axis surface aeration system designed specifically for large-scale oxidation ditches in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. As a key piece of equipment in the Orbal/Carrousel-type oxidation ditch process, it provides three critical functions simultaneously: efficient atmospheric oxygenation, robust wastewater propulsion along the ditch channel, and complete activated sludge suspension to prevent sedimentation.
The aerator consists of a drive unit (motor with single-speed, dual-speed, or VFD control and a spiral bevel-cylindrical gear reducer), a flexible coupling (pin-type or rubber contact for vibration absorption and angular misalignment compensation), a main shaft fabricated from heavy-wall seamless steel pipe with FRP thermoset moulding or heavy-duty anti-corrosion zinc/stainless steel spray treatment, multiple aerator disks, and bearing housings that support the total operational load while compensating for thermal expansion and contraction of the shaft.
The aerator disks are injection-moulded from high-strength FRPP (Fibreglass Reinforced Polypropylene). Each disk surface integrates four functional structures: Teeth that provide propulsion for wastewater flow; Water-splashing Lobes that maximise air-water contact and oxygen saturation; Oxygen-storage Grooves that entrain and shear air bubbles for deep emulsification; and Centrifugal Channels that eject oxygen-depleted water via centrifugal force for continuous re-oxidation. The disks feature a split-type two-half design with a locking device for easy on-site installation and future capacity expansion.
During operation, the motor drives the shaft and disks through the gear reducer. The rotating disks and their integrated blind-hole structures create water curtains that entrain large volumes of atmospheric air, providing thorough mixing and efficient oxygenation. Simultaneously, the rotation strongly propels the wastewater forward along the oxidation ditch channel at a velocity typically exceeding 0.3 m/s, keeping the activated sludge perfectly suspended and ensuring complete biochemical treatment.
