The air handling unit (AHU) is a large piece of equipment that conditions and circulates air throughout a building. AHUs handle multiple functions, including ventilation, filtration, heating, cooling, and humidity control.
Difference between AHU AND HVAC
HVAC is the overall system for environmental control, while AHU is a key device within that system responsible for air treatment and circulation.
Key Components:
Blower: Moves the air through the unit and ductwork.
Filters: Remove dust, pollen, and other particles from the air.
Heating and Cooling Coils: Adjust the air temperature.
Humidifier/Dehumidifier: Control the moisture levels in the air.
Dampers: Regulate airflow within the unit and to different zones.
Where they're used:
AHUs are typically found in larger buildings, such as office buildings, hospitals, and industrial facilities.
They can also be used in residential applications, especially in larger homes or multi-family dwellings.
