1. Enhance corneal permeability of drugs
Hydroxypropyl cyclodextrin can enhance the corneal permeability of drugs. For example, hydroxypropyl beta cyclodextrin can increase the corneal penetration rate of pilocarpine nitrate by nearly 4 times.
2. Adjust drug release speed
For drugs that are generally taken, the inclusion effect of hydroxypropyl betacyclodextrin on drugs can achieve four types of controlled release effects, namely immediate release, delayed release (time-controlled release), extended release and controlled release.
3. Increase drug solubility and improve bioavailability
‌Hydroxypropyl-beta-cyclodextrin (HPBCD)‌ exhibits high hydrophilicity, which facilitates rapid drug dissolution in the gastrointestinal tract. This property significantly enhances the drug’s aqueous solubility, thereby improving its bioavailability. As a result, the therapeutic efficacy of the drug is amplified, allowing for reduced dosage requirements while maintaining or even enhancing clinical effectiveness.

Product Description

Hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin is a hydroxyalkylated derivative of beta-cyclodextrin. It has excellent water solubility (the solubility at room temperature is greater than 500mg/ml) and has a significant solubilizing effect on drugs that are poorly soluble in water. It has been used as a solubilizer for injections abroad. This excipient has been included in the supplement to the European Pharmacopoeia (4th edition). Since hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin has good water solubility and a good solubilizing effect on poorly soluble drugs, many applicants have used this excipient to add drugs that are poorly soluble or slightly soluble in water to hydroxypropyl beta-cyclodextrin and apply for production according to registration category 5.
