Description
All-Electric Glass Furnace 60 TPD for Borosilicate & Specialty Glass
Target Application Scenarios

For manufacturers producing borosilicate lab glass, colored glass, opal ware and pharmaceutical glass — particularly in markets such as Bangladesh and parts of Ethiopia with subsidized industrial power or abundant hydropower — an all-electric furnace completely eliminates fuel price fluctuation risks and flue gas emissions. JEFFER electric glass furnaces utilize submerged molybdenum electrodes for direct Joule heating, achieving an overall thermal efficiency of 75-85%, compared to only 30-40% for fuel-fired furnaces.

Two configurations are available: pure all-electric design (3-20 TPD), and electric-boost design (20-60 TPD, auxiliary heating for small fuel-fired melters). This solution is optimal for projects requiring strict temperature control and low batch volatilization.

60 TPD All-Electric Glass Furnace for Borosilicate & Specialty Glass with Energy Saving Efficiency
Working Mechanism

Raw batch materials are fed from the top into a refractory-lined melting tank. Submerged molybdenum electrodes pass alternating current through molten glass to generate heat directly via Joule heating. Without flame combustion, heat loss from superstructure and exhaust is significantly reduced. A cold-top batch layer covers the melt surface, providing thermal insulation and capturing volatile substances (boron, fluorine, alkali metals).

Molten glass flows through the throat into the working chamber, where electrodes maintain precise forming temperature. In electric-boost mode, a small fuel-fired system completes primary melting, while electrodes supply 40-80% of total energy input.

Core Competitive Advantages
  • High thermal efficiency: 75-85% thermal efficiency vs 30-40% of fuel-fired furnaces. When electricity price is under $0.08/kWh, energy expenditure can be reduced by 30-50%.
  • Zero flue gas & compact layout: No flue gas generation, eliminating the need for regenerators, chimneys and exhaust gas treatment systems, lowering CAPEX and saving plant space.
  • Excellent glass homogeneity: Direct resistance heating delivers uniform melt temperature and small thermal gradients, critical for high-quality borosilicate and optical glass.
  • Lower raw material consumption: Cold-top batch layer suppresses volatile escape, cutting raw material loss by 15-25% and stabilizing glass composition batch by batch.
  • Flexible capacity & dual modes: Modular electrode assembly supports all-electric (3-20 TPD) and electric-boost (20-60 TPD) options. Electrodes can be added or removed to adjust production output.
