Using the coiled tubing underbalanced drilling technology, not only can quickly sidetrack the small hole, but also can effectively protect the reservoir, thus improving the development benefit of old oil fields. The blowout preventer (BOP), a wellhead seal used in coiled tubing underbalanced drilling, is similar to, but different from, the rotary blowout preventer used in conventional drillpipe underbalanced drilling.

The boP is a well control device located between the injector head and the BOP stack. The piston is pushed by hydraulic pressure to squeeze the core, which is tightly wrapped around the surface of the coiled tubing, sealing the coiled tubing as it is run in and out of the well. In the process of underbalanced drilling, it works with the throttle manifold to adjust the wellhead back pressure, maintain the stability of bottom hole pressure together, and realize the underbalanced environment while drilling and spraying. When performing other pressure operations, such as coiled tubing intervention, the wellhead is sealed with a blowout preventer (BOP) to ensure safety.
