About Manual Starters
Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices designed for straightforward motor control. Featuring either a button or rotary knob, these starters use mechanical linkages to open or close contacts, starting or stopping the connected motor. Note that manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may automatically restart when power returns - an important safety consideration for certain appliions.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in motor overload protection
- Available with various enclosure options
- Cost-effective initial investment
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via start button or ignition key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the battery to the starter motor, engaging the starter drive (Bendix gear system) with the engine's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running independently, the starter motor automatically disengages from the flywheel.
