Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-friendly devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that mechanically opens or closes contacts to start or stop connected equipment.
Important Note: Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power is restored. This requires careful consideration for safety-critical appliions.
Key Advantages
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Wide selection of enclosure options
- Low initial investment cost
Starter Motor Operation
When activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor.
The electrical current activates both the starter motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system), which engages the vehicle's flywheel. As the starter motor turns, it cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles.
Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel as external electrical assistance is no longer required.
