Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are manually operated devices designed for simple and straightforward operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that allows users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.
Key Features of Manual Starters
- Delivers safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Provides motor overload protection
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Important Note: Manual starters do not break control circuits during power loss, which means connected motors may restart automatically when power is restored. This characteristic requires careful consideration for safety-critical appliions.
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, activating both the motor and the starter drive (Bendix gear system).
The electrical charge engages the vehicle's flywheel, allowing the starter motor to crank the engine and initiate the combustion process. Once the engine is running independently, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the gear and flywheel.
