Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are simple, user-operated devices that control equipment activation through a button or rotary knob. These starters use mechanical linkages to open or close contacts, starting or stopping the motor. Note that manual starters don't break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may automatically restart when power returns - an important safety consideration for certain appliions.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact design suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Cost-effective initial investment
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which activates the starter drive (Bendix gear system). The starter motor then engages the flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine is running, the mechanism disengages the starter motor from the flywheel as the engine no longer requires the electrical spark.
