Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are manually operated devices designed for simple operation without requiring expert intervention. These starters feature a button or rotary knob that controls the connected equipment, using mechanical linkages to open or close contacts for motor operation.
Important Safety Note:
Manual starters do not break the control circuit during power loss, which means motors may restart automatically when power is restored. This requires careful consideration in safety-critical appliions.
Key Advantages of Manual Starters
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Built-in overload protection for motor safety
- Wide selection of enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers power from the vehicle's battery to the starter motor, which then engages the flywheel through a gear system (starter drive or Bendix). The motor cranks the engine to initiate combustion in petrol and diesel vehicles. Once the engine is running, the starter motor automatically disengages from the flywheel.
