Manual Starters Overview
Manual starters are devices operated manually without requiring expert intervention. They feature a button or rotary knob that enables users to turn connected equipment on or off through mechanical linkages that open or close contacts.
Note: These starters don't break control circuits during power loss, meaning motors could restart automatically when power returns - a critical safety consideration in some appliions.
Key Advantages
- Safe and economical operation
- Compact size suitable for diverse appliions
- Overload protection for motor safety
- Available with various enclosure options
- Low initial cost compared to other starter types
Starter Motor Operation
When the engine is activated (via stop/start button or traditional key), an electrical signal is sent to the starter solenoid. This component transfers charge from the battery to the starter motor, activating it along with the starter drive (Bendix) gear system.
The mechanism engages the vehicle's flywheel, cranking the engine to initiate combustion. Once the engine runs independently, the starter motor disengages from the flywheel as the electrical spark is no longer required.
