Type I Chromium-Plated Sensitivity Test Panel for Penetrant Testing
Available in 10μm, 20μm, 30μm, and 50μm crack depth specifications
Product Overview
Type I ASTM E1417, AMS 2647D, ISO 3452-3, JIS Z 2343-3 compliant twin NiCr sensitivity panels for penetrant testing applications. These precision test panels feature fine strip-shaped cracks invisible to the naked eye on the chromium-plated surface, with nominal crack widths marked on the back.
Specifications & Classification
Crack Width Specifications: 1–1.3 μm, 2–3 μm, 4–5 μm
Corresponding Crack Depths: 10 μm, 20 μm, 30 μm, 50 μm
Flaw Depth Options: 10, 20, 30, and 50 microns (0.0004, 0.0008, 0.0012, 0.002 inch)
Construction & Manufacturing
Manufactured by plating hard Nickel Chromium alloy on a 2mm thick brass substrate and stressing the panel in tension. The brittle NiCr layer creates controlled-depth cracks limited to the plating thickness. Each panel is cut perpendicular to the crack direction, creating matching pairs (A and B) with virtually identical crack patterns.
Application Uses
Select penetrants meeting required sensitivity specifications
Evaluate new penetrants against proven materials
Compare in-service penetrant against original concentrate to detect deterioration
Select optimal penetrant inspection process parameters
On-the-job verification of inspection system functionality and personnel competency
Standard Delivery Includes
- Type I test block - 1 set
- Manufacturer's calibration certificate - 1 piece
- Protective carrying case - 1 piece
- Crack photograph for reference
Testing Methodology
Apply specified penetrant materials according to defined procedures. Evaluate penetrant materials or inspection processes by observing crack indication patterns on the panel or comparing them with standard indication photographs.
