Disodium sulfate, Glauber Salt

Natural products are obtained through open-pit mining, underground mining, or recrystallization. Sodium is the sixth most abundant element in the Earth's crust. Sodium sulfate deposits are relatively young geologically and mainly post-glacial deposits. Sodium sulfate is widely distributed and is a common component in seawater and many saline-alkali or alkaline lakes.

The economic reserves of natural sodium sulfate worldwide are estimated at 3.3 billion tons. The average annual production of natural sodium sulfate worldwide is approximately 2.6 million tons, which is sufficient to meet the expected demand for several centuries. Surface depressions or lakes without outlets, which are replenished by springs flowing through volcanic rocks containing sulfide minerals, usually produce soluble sulfide salts. These salts are oxidized to form sulfates upon contact with air.
