carboxymethyl cellulose, CMC , cellulose gum

CMC is the abbreviation of hydroxymethylcellulose in English. It is a natural product derived from cellulose and has many advantages that natural gums and grain slurries do not have. It is soluble in water and can significantly increase the viscosity of the solution. It has the functions of thickening, dispersing, emulsifying, suspending, stabilizing and protecting colloids.

The main chemical reactions of CMC are the alkalization reaction of cellulose and alkali to form basic cellulose and the reaction of basic cellulose and monochloroacetic acid .
