The advantages of glass reactors include their versatility and visibility. A single vessel system can perform multiple operations without breaking containment, which is essential when processing toxic or highly potent compounds.

A typical glass reactor consists of a glass vessel with an agitator and integrated heating/cooling system. Borosilicate glass vessels are available in sizes from 1L to 100L. Liquids or solids are fed through connections at the top cover, while vapors are discharged through top connections and wastes are typically discharged from the bottom.
