The SPE short path distillation unit is a high-efficiency molecular distillation system for high-vacuum separation of heat-sensitive, high-boiling and easily oxidized materials. The condenser is built directly inside the evaporator body and faces the heated evaporation surface, greatly shortening the molecular migration distance and enabling separation far below the atmospheric boiling point. This industrial scale series (SPE-8 to SPE-50, heating area 8-50 m²) supports continuous large-volume production and can be supplied as a complete turnkey distillation plant.

Working Principle

The SPE short path distiller relies on the difference in molecular mean free path for separation and runs continuously under high vacuum. The feed enters the heated cylinder, is wiped into a uniform thin film by the rotating scraper and flows downward. The jacket heats the thin film and the light components evaporate far below their atmospheric boiling point. The evaporated molecules travel a very short distance to the built-in condenser, condense and are discharged as the light fraction. The heavy fraction cannot reach the condenser and flows down to be discharged separately, achieving purification.

Q1. What is the difference between short path distillation and ordinary distillation?
A1. The SPE short path distiller has a built-in condenser, so the molecular migration distance is short and evaporation occurs far below the atmospheric boiling point under high vacuum, making it ideal for heat-sensitive and high-boiling materials. Ordinary distillation relies on boiling point difference and operates at higher temperatures, which can degrade heat-sensitive materials.
Q2. How do I select the scraper type (H / T / J / G / Z / L)?
A2. H sliding, T flexible, J hinge, G fixed, Z roller and L spiral scrapers are selected according to material viscosity, fluidity and fouling tendency. Please provide the viscosity and temperature conditions for proper selection.
Q3. Can I buy a single unit instead of a complete system?
A3. Yes. The distiller can be supplied as a single unit, or as a complete set together with cold trap, feed pump, concentrate pump, condensate pump and vacuum unit.
Q4. Can one unit separate multiple fractions?
A4. A single short path distiller mainly completes one light / heavy fraction separation. To separate multiple fractions, multiple distillation units are usually connected in series.
Q5. How is the vacuum maintained?
A5. The unit body provides the evaporation and separation section, while the high vacuum is generated by an external vacuum unit. Vacuum systems and cold traps can be supplied as part of the package.
Q6. Does it support continuous industrial production?
A6. Yes. The SPE series covers pilot to large industrial sizes, from 0.1 m² pilot units to 50 m² industrial units, enabling continuous feed-distillation-discharge for industrial production lines.
