Shin-Etsu KE-1606 is a two-component, high transparency silicone rubber for mold making. It cures into a high-strength elastomer via an addition reaction when mixed with the CAT-RG curing agent at a 10:1 weight ratio. It is known for its high transparency, high tear resistance, and low shrinkage.

KE-1606 is a professional-grade mold making silicone from Shin-Etsu, designed for applications requiring exceptional clarity and fine replication capabilities. Its base compound has a moderate viscosity (60 Pa·s), making it easy to handle and de-air. Curing completely in about 24 hours at 23°C, it offers a generous 3-hour working time, allowing for the meticulous creation of complex molds. The cured elastomer exhibits excellent mechanical properties, including a tensile strength of 4.3 MPa and an elongation at break of 350%, ensuring mold durability and a long service life.

The key specialty of KE-1606 lies in its combination of high transparency and robust physical properties. With a Shore A hardness of 28, it remains relatively soft, facilitating easy demolding from master models, even those with undercuts. Its high tear strength of 12 kN/m significantly reduces the risk of the mold tearing or being damaged during demolding. Furthermore, as an addition-cure silicone, it features minimal linear shrinkage, enabling dimensionally precise replication. It also boasts a wide usable temperature range from -40°C to +175°C, ensuring good stability.

Based on its high transparency and precision replication capabilities, KE-1606 is ideally suited for creating clear molds where observing the internal filling process is necessary, such as for casting transparent resin artworks, crystal glue crafts, and prototypes of precision industrial parts. It is also widely used for replicating sculptures with intricate details, cultural artifact restoration, and candy mold making, thanks to its easy release properties and non-stick nature with most materials.
